Baptism
The Baptism of Children
We are delighted that you are interested in having your child baptized at one of our churches and we will be very happy to make the arrangements for you and help you feel comfortable through the whole process.
The Church of England practises infant baptism (the baptism of children) and if you live in Tintinhull, Chilthorne Domer, Yeovil Marsh or Thorne Coffin you are welcome to have your child baptized in any of our churches. If you live in another parish, but worship regularly in one of our churches you are also very welcome.
Of course, it is possible that you live outside of our parishes but have a family connection to one of our churches and wish to have your baptized at that church. This is still possible and we would love to welcome you. However, if you are not already a regular worshipper here we ask you to contact the parish priest of the parish in which you live and ask him or her to confirm that they are happy for your child to be baptized at the church of your choice.
Baptism is a very serious commitment to Jesus Christ, and to your child, and requires that you and the child's godparents make a profession of faith in God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We understand that not everyone is able to make that commitment now. If you do not feel able to make such a commitment but would like to mark your child's birth in a special way we are happy to offer a service of Thanksgiving for the Gift of a Child.
If you would like to arrange a baptism or to discuss which service is most appropriate for your family please contact us.
